Tomato Rice

Today i'm gonna present you with an exotic & delicious tomato rice recipe. This is an ideal lunch box recipe. You can prepare this recipe within 20 minutes. It can be accompanied with onion raita or potato fry. Now lets get into the recipe..!


Ingredients :

  1     Seeraga Samba Rice     2 Cups
  2   Tomatoes   7 Nos
  3   Onions   3 Nos
  4   Chilli   1
  5   Coriander Leaves   1/2 cup
  6   Mint Leaves   1/2 cup
  7   Oil   4 Tablespoons   
  8   Ghee   2 Tablespoons
  9   Ginger Garlic Paste   2 Tablespoons
  10   Cinnamon   1 Stick
  11   Cardamon   5
  12   Cloves   5
  13   Bay Leaf   1
  14   Chilli Powder   1/2 teaspoon
  15   Coriander Powder   1/2 teaspoon
  16   Garam Masala   1/2 teaspoon
  17   Water   4 Cups
  18     Salt   As Required

Preparation :

1) Slice the onions in lengthwise. Chop the tomatoes & Slit the chilli.
2) Heat oil in a rice cooker. Add cinnamon, cardamon, cloves, star anise, bay leaf & saute for 2 minutes.
3) Add the chilli, sliced onions & fry till it becomes translucent. Now add ginger garlic paste & fry well.
4) After the raw smell goes, add the tomatoes & required salt.
5) Then add the chilli powder, coriander powder & garam masala. Fry till the tomatoes gets smashed well.
6) After the tomatoes are cooked well, add the coriander & mint leaves. Saute for 3-4 minutes.
7) Now add the water & let it boil. Then add the washed rice & little ghee.
8) Mix well & close the cooker. Wait for one whistle, then keep in sim for 5 minutes & switch off the stove.

    I tried this recipe it was very tasty Thank you :-). But the rice e was bit hard. I used the same 1:2 ratio but I fried the rice on ghee
    before adding to water and kept for 2 whistles.
    Could u plz clarify me whether does frying rice makes rice very grainy. And fires this procedures goes for basmati rice too?

      Thank U very much for giving me ur feedback. :-)
      1:2 ratio goes well for Basmati rice & Seeraga samba rice.
      Frying the Basmati rice is usually done to make the rice non sticky.
      But it doesn't make it hard. Next time U try to add extra half cup of water or U keep the rice in sim for 5 minutes after 1 whistle.
      Also fry the rice for just 2-3 minutes. Dont over fry it.
